Arsenal 1:3 Manchester United. Jesse Lingard Brace Sinks Unlucky Arsenal At The Emirates
United started the better of the two teams and got their deserved opener after Antonio Valencia capped off a counter attack he started by winning the ball high up the pitch. The Ecuadorian then found Paul Pogba who returned it to Valencia for a finish through the legs of Petr Cech.
United got their second shortly after when they pounced upon another Arsenal error. Romelu Lukaku found Anthony Martial who flicked the ball superbly for Jesse Lingard to score their second in less than 10 minutes.
From then on, it was one way traffic as the Gunners began to create chance after chance.
There might have been a slight penalty appeal after Marcos Rojo had his arm across Lacazette in the box which didn’t allow the Frenchman to finish properly.
Probably their best chance in that spell was when Aaron Ramsey hit the woodwork but Alexandre Lacazette couldn’t make the most of his second opportunity which De Gea saved only for the final attempt made by Granit Xhaka to go wide.
Romelu Lukaku was very close to scoring an own goal but his attempted clearance was saved by David De Gea.
Hector Bellerin and Saed Kolasinac had chances from long range which were saved by De Gea and it seemed like no matter what Arsenal do, they would not be able to score in the game.
They did get a breakthrough though as Aaron Ramsey was played through by Alexis Sanchez via a long ball on the left wing and the Welshman in turn set up Lacazette who scored easily past De Gea with United defenders ball watching and appealing for offside on Ramsey who wasn’t.
Arsenal were desperately close to getting an equalizer but for the heroics of David De Gea who made a stunning double save first form Lacazette then from Alexis Sanchez who should have done better with his finish.
United looked dangerous on the counter all day and they almost added to their lead when Romelu Lukaku played Jesse Lingard through on goal but his right footed shot was saved by the out stretched arm of Petr Chech
United finally got their game clincher once again on the break. After some strong play by Paul Pogba to get by Laurent Koscielny, the United Midfielder set up Jesse Lingard for a simple tap in and his second of the game.
Then controversy struck as Paul Pogba was shown a straight red card for a high boot on the calf of Hector Bellerin.
On the other end, United could have felt outdone by after Koscielny brought down Lukaku in a situation that looked like he was the last man but the Andre Marriner showed the Frenchman a yellow instead.
Arsenal continued to threaten but couldn’t find any other goals in the match as United held on for a nig victory at the Emirates ending the Gunners unbeaten run at home.
This win came at a cost for United as their star performer on the night, Paul Pogba will now be suspended against Manchester City next week in what is a very vital game in the title picture.
Arsenal were unlucky to come away with nothing and their manager will be encouraged by the desire they showed when they went down but it’s back to the drawing board for Wenger’s men.
