The Secret Behind United’s Comebacks: How They Can Turn Their Season Around
This season has been something of a rollercoaster experience for the red devils.
Mourinho’s men have suffered four defeats already with 6 games to spare till the first half of the season.
Compare that to last season where they ended up with seven defeats throughout the whole campaign. A tally which saw them finish in second place behind city with a staggering 19 points separating both teams.
Switch back to the present and United currently lie behind Bournemouth and Watford in eight place with a negative goal difference and are already 12 points behind their Manchester neighbors.
The ease with which City dispatched the red half of Manchester on Sunday only went further to compound their woes.
The narrative just shows just how much United’s standards and performances have declined and shows that the fans are right to be worried.
However, a shining light for United has been their mental strength notably in wake of recent comebacks.
From their famous 3-2 win over rivals City from a 2-0 deficit at half time to recent comeback wins against Newcastle and Bournemouth and most recently the stunning win over Juventus in Italy. Mourinho’s men have showed they are down…but not out.
We can’t help but wonder what goes on in the tunnel and the secret behind their turnarounds.
It can only be one special reason; the impact of the special one.
Mourinho is popularly renowned for using his touchline antics to get the better of his opponents and tweak it to his team’s advantage.
Jose has been spot on with his substitutions lately with Juan Mata leading the saviour role.
If winning from losing positions and most chances created in the second half could win the league.. United would currently sit at first position as they are unmatched in both categories based on statistics.
This goes on to expatiate on the fact that United are becoming a second half team. However football is a game of two halves and to win a game (assuredly) you have to be on top in both halves.
We know United on paper have the quality to challenge for the league with star players like Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez to mention a few.
The Old Trafford faithful can take solace in the fact that the team is hungry to win but not motivated well enough.
Winning the league seems a distant reality to Mourinho and United fans as it stands and the only option on the cards is to hope for the best.
However a turnaround in their season and a spot in the top four is well possible and can still be achieved.
With the right team chemistry, extra push from the players and Mourinho’s special touch, United can start winning games from the very start and see themselves salvage something respectable for the season.
